CHAPTER STARTERS
for The Legacy of Little Mouse the Mouse
Introduction:
If you were given a one-of-a kind rough diamond crystal that you could cut and shape into a multi-million dollar stone, what would you do with it? Throw it away? Put it aside for another day? Probably not. Most likely you would do everything in your power to bring it to its fullest potential.
Well, the truth is that each of us really has been gifted with such a precious stone to develop to its fullest. And, that precious stone is none other than “the you in you” or should I say your brain. David Eagleman, neuroscientist at Stanford University and author of The Brain, writes on page 35: “ . . . Brains are as unique as snowflakes . . . . no one like you has ever existed, or will ever exist again.”
Agree! That’s what this one-of-a-kind bookThe Legacy of Little Mouse the Mouseis really about --- how you can take your precious gift and shape it into the person you were born to be.
Story Starters:
For your convenience the following chapter starters are presented as lead-ins into the chapters and to introduce some questions you might like to discuss. (Please note that Little Mouse’s nickname is LM.)
Chapter 1: Something’s in the Air.
Something puzzling was on the minds of all the animals that lived near and around Paradise Lake during the winter of 1998 to the end of 1999. But they couldn’t put their finger on it. So what was it? Historically, the year 1999 would be one of the most unique years in human time. Do you know or remember some of the happenings that took place that year?
Chapter 2: An Opportunity to Avail Oneself
How many times have you wished you could fly to your grandparents’ or aunt or uncle’s home to visit and have days and days to play in the snow? Well, 10-year old Shauna -- the author’s niece -- did just that. Did things turn out the way she had expected?
Chapter 3: Literary Tidings
Would Shauna and Uncle Jim make it to Little Mouse’s house? That most definitely was on Uncle Jim’s mind. However, there were two other “off the wall things” he had to get Shauna to okay if he were to complete the trip. If you were Shauna would you have agreed?
Chapter 4: Snowshoeing In
Have you ever put on snowshoes and hiked on new fresh snow? Whether you have or not, you’ll be experiencing the sights, sounds, and thoughts of Shauna and Uncle Jim on the trail down to Little Butte Creek. Have you ever experienced such a hike?
Chapter 5: Wait and See
Have you ever forgotten to notify someone that you were going to drop in and then after arriving no one answered the door? Well, that’s what happened to Shauna and Uncle Jim. Now what?
Chapter 6: Raise the Bar
If you want to be really good at something you have to raise the bar. You have to up your game. LM calls it leveraging. What area of knowledge or skill do you need to raise the bar? What are the steps you need to learn?
Chapter 7: The Fulcrum Supports
As you know a physical lever has to have a fulcrum to lift heavy objects. The same goes for human beings. To lift the bar or to become better than you were the day before which of the six supports have helped you the most?
Chapter 8: You, Yourself, and Thee
You are your brain. What you feed your brain you become. When you feed it good stuff you feel and do good. When you don’t; you don’t. So how big of a part do you play among the six fulcrum supports? Why did LM portray you and your brain, so differently from the other supports? How and why is the upper half of the crystal similar in one way and different in another from the lower half?
Chapter 9: Fiery Brilliance
LM compares our brain to a diamond in the rough. What are some of the facets that he presents that you are or are not using in shaping your brain into a fiery brilliant cut?
Chapter 10: Wholesome Balance
How are traffic lights, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the Golden Mean a guide that you can use in making good choices in your life?
Chapter 11: Spirit and Mind
Among the three balance groups presented, which brain-facets in each constellation have always helped you the most?
Chapter 12: Last but Not Least
The final two balance constellations deal with money and purpose.
What steps can you take to become a millionaire by age 65?
What is your purpose in life? Because you are the CEO of a one-of-a-kind body, mind, and spirit, what is your 5, 10, or 15-year plan?
Chapter 13: Watch Out for the Cat’s Claw
Yep! This chapter’s title is unique but when it comes to courage it addresses an important point. What are the cat claws in your life? What can you do about them? Incidentally, what really big surprise did LM spring on Uncle Jim? Unbelievable!
Chapter 14: Snowshoeing Out
As you may know hiking out of a canyon with snowshoes is no small feat.
Sharing a thought or two or playing a game can help get the mind off the tedious task. Which thought or activity did Shauna use that got your fancy?
Chapter 15: On the Road Again
Most likely you have had at least one special car trip in you life. What was it? How does Shauna’s trip measure up to yours?
Chapter 16: Gems of Wisdom
Have you ever had a heart-to-heart talk with your mom, dad, family member, or someone else? I’m sure you will agree the most memorable one will stay in you mind forever. Which conversational topic do you think will stay in Shauna’s mind for a long, long time? Why?
In Closing:
You were gifted a most unique brain . . . you are your brain. You get to shape it anyway you see fit. Do everything you can to bring your diamond into it full potential. Using The Special Four, The Big Two, and the Balance Powers feed it all the good stuff . . . and the best of good will happen to you.
Little Mouse and I wish you the best.
