ABOUT THE AUTHOR
James Albert Barnes Jr., Ph.D., may have retired from his long career in education, but he is still dedicated to teaching children important life skills and lessons. The Little Mouse the Mouse series teaches children and adults how to use logical thinking skills and tenacity to solve their problems. The sequel, The Legacy of Little Mouse, especially emphasizes the pathway to a meaningful and satisfying life. Although both books are pack full of weighty concepts, they are easily digested, thanks to Little Mouse's storyline. Both books emphasize intellectual and moral virtues.
Dr. Barnes is a retired elementary teacher, reading specialist, mentor, and school administrator in the Palermo Union School District. His sense of ambition started at a young age, when he took jobs ranging from setting pins in a bowling alley, shoe shining, knocking almonds, to picking fruit to apprenticing in his parents’ meat market and delicatessen and grocery checker in a small mountain community in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California.
He lettered in baseball and boxing in high school and then went on to college. He served a six-year tour with the US Air Force Reserves. He received his bachelor’s degree in business marketing from California State University, Chico. After deciding on a career in education, he received his teaching credential and a master’s degree in curriculum and methods (with a specialty in reading diagnosis and remediation) also from California State University, Chico, and his doctorate in early childhood education and curriculum and instruction from the University of Oregon.
Throughout his career, he endeavored to pass on to his students a can-do attitude and love of learning and self-improvement. The Little Mouse service began as a way for Dr. Barnes to show his students they can accomplish anything they put their minds and efforts to.
